Throughout the recent Covid-19 pandemic many women planning to become, or who are pregnant, have taken a moment to stop and reflect on their health and wellbeing. If you’re pregnant the Flu and Measles, Mumps and Rubella viruses can cause harm to you and your baby.
The Flu and Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccines are free and will protect you and your baby.
Dr Anne Deans, Consultant Gynaecologist & Obstetrician, Chief of Service Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Frimley Health says: “It’s really important that pregnant women receive their flu jab. If you had the flu vaccine last year, either because you were pregnant or because you were in a vulnerable group, you need to have it again this year.
“Pregnant women are at risk of severe illness from flu at any stage of pregnancy, so you need to have the flu vaccine as soon as possible.
“Women who’ve had the flu vaccine while pregnant also pass some protection on to their babies, which lasts for the first few months of their lives. The free flu vaccine is the best protection for you both”
Frimley & Wexham Maternity Voices Partnership Co-chair Kate Hargreaves says: “The Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccine (MMR) will protect you and your baby.
Some infections, such as rubella (German measles), can harm your baby if you catch them during pregnancy.
“Check your vaccinations are up to date. If you have no record of receiving them, make an appointment with your GP”.
