Work to redevelop the former Heathlands care home has reached a further milestone after the council’s decision-making executive approved the funding, service model and building contractor for the project.
East Berkshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) will joint fund the project with the council, which will see the development of a 66-bed integrated health and care home. Construction work to redevelop the former site, including site set up and demolition, will be undertaken by Stepnell Ltd. and the council is working with Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust to develop the service model.
Cllr Dale Birch, Executive Member for Adult Services, Health and Housing, said: “This is an exciting step forward in the Heathlands redevelopment project and the appointing of our construction partners gives us a strong base to confidently move forward with this work.
“Over the coming months, preliminary work will begin to the site, with main construction work anticipated to start this spring and a projected completion date of autumn 2021.
“This ground-breaking joint venture across social care and health will provide specialist care in a modern facility, which has been specifically designed around the core needs of its patients. It will offer a safe and secure environment for patients suffering with dementia or transitioning from hospital to their home.
“I very much look forward to working with our partners as work progresses and seeing this much needed facility come to fruition.”
Fiona Slevin-Brown, East Berkshire CCG’s Executive Managing Director for Bracknell Forest, said: “We are very excited to be working with council colleagues on the redevelopment of the Heathlands Care Home, which will enable the improved quality of care services available for our local residents.”
No objections were received to the planning application, which was granted permission at the end of January 2020.
